I finally made it to the Hagia Sophia. You’d think being in Istanbul for a month would warrant an immediate trip. Better late than never, right? I’ll post more photos soon, although I regret to say that the lighting inside the incredible building is not super for my regular old point & shoot. Starting to wonder whether it’s time to invest in a real camera…Anyway, enjoy this sneak peek!

Heading uphill. |
The other day we strayed from our routine of walking only on the waterfront and crossed the street (HUGE, I know!).
I was actually really surprised at how different the perspective was, by making such a slight change.
We saw things we had never seen but had always passed because we were looking the other way: stained glass we hadn’t noticed, a beautiful graffito that I liked. I also caught a glimpse of this elderly woman on her way somewhere. Maybe home, maybe not. But wherever she was going, I hope she enjoyed the journey.

inI think I have made a decision, though. I like fall. A lot. I might even love fall, which has stunned me at every turn. I joke to people when I tell them where I”m from that I sound like a little kid running around here. “Ooh, look at the leaves! PRETTYYYYYYY! They’re so COLORFUL!” and people just laugh and shake their heads, kind of like when Kat & I were traveling in Scotland and marveled at the plethora of rainbows overhead every other day.
So why this change of heart? A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. Here are a few to explain why autumn has seduced me.

A friend of mine took me surfing today at the beach in Garrettstown, near Kinsale, Ireland. It was pretty cold–hence the wetsuit, booties, and cap thingy–but totally worth it! The view from the water was phenomenal, too.
The hardest thing about it was changing out of the wetsuit with completely numb fingers. Most difficult thing ever!

Although I didn’t master the whole surfing thing on my first go, I did catch a few waves into shore and made it onto my knees, so that’s a start. |

Is this not one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen? Completely unedited! That’s really what Ireland looks like, people! |

Basically, she’s the coolest dog I”ve met since I left my own snoosy goose behind in Tucson. Here are some pictures of Polly, so you can see how cute she is.
Polly is hilarious.

Exhibit A: She wants her belly rubbed. But sometimes, whether anyone is rubbing it or not, she freezes in this position for minutes at a time. This makes me laugh. |
Polly is a good friend.

Exhibit B: She keeps the bed warm while I’m working. How considerate! |
Polly is one of the most adorable, sweetest dogs on the planet. Exhibits C-E.
